Ammolite Bolo Tie
This is truly a unique, one-of-a-kind piece piece. I used a large specimen of Ammolite, which is a fossilized form of Ammonite - estimated to be between 60-70 million years old. Once the Ammonite creature became fossilized, it took on an opalized appearance, with colors ranging from red's to orange's to green's to yellow's. It is one of the rarest gemstones in the world as the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta, Canada is the only area in the world known to yield gem-grade ammolite in commercial quantities. I left the stone with a natural rough cut surface, pretty much the way it came out of the ground (as opposed to a more polished cabochon-type cut) which really emphasizes the distinctive color pattern. Sterling silver bezel with a rope accent, mounted on a textured and framed sterling silver backing. Overall size of the bolo is approximately 1-3/4" high by 1-1/2" wide. Woven leather cords and silver-colored tips.
